What to Do With Your Seed Ball
The question I’m most often asked at my seed ball making workshops is: What next? Can I really toss them anywhere? Can I plant them at home? Am I going to mess this up?
If…
The seeds in your ball are suited to the time of year you spread them and…
You make sure they’re in a spot to receive enough sun
…then the seeds will grow. It’s what they’re made to do!
If you do a seed ball workshop with me, then you can count on the seeds to be a good match for the season. Here are a couple options:
PLANTER: Let your seed ball dry and break it up so seeds are loose. Spread them across a planter full of potting soil. Cover the seeds with soil before watering and moving the planter to a sunny spot for the seeds to germinate.
OPEN SPACE (INCLUDING GARDENS): Let your seed ball dry. At a distance, toss it into the space with force so that it ideally breaks apart when it lands. Don't fret if the seed ball doesn't break! The seedlings are strong and will push through as the dirt disintegrates over time.
